Number Eight on My 12-Point Agenda
The eighth pillar of my 12-Point Agenda for the good people of Ogun State is ELECTRIFICATION.
Power! Power!! Power!!!
The total electrification of Ogun State is a vital and ambitious undertaking. It is certainly a daunting task—but it is not an impossible one.
A Brief Perspective on Electricity
-
1600 A.D. – William Gilbert first coined the word “Electricity.”
-
1882 A.D. – The Pearl Street Station in New York City, USA became the first purpose-built power station.
-
1890 A.D. – Electricity began to gain widespread use in homes.
-
1892 A.D. – Even before electricity became widespread in the United States, Falmouth in Jamaica had access to electric power.
-
2025 A.D. – Today, approximately 90% of the world’s population has access to electricity.
Yet Sub-Saharan Africa continues to lag behind, with the largest number of people lacking reliable electricity. According to global development reports, progress in some areas has even begun to reverse for the first time.
Nigeria remains part of this challenge.
In 2025, only about 61% of Nigerians have access to electricity—a number that many would consider deeply concerning for a modern nation.
Our Commitment
Any campaign promise made by my administration will be a cast-iron promise that we intend to keep.
Because of this, we approach every commitment with care, planning, and accountability.
Within the first 100 days of my administration, we will establish clear benchmarks and a strategic roadmap for a large-scale electrification project across Ogun State.
This transformation will require time, but speed and urgency will guide our efforts.
Our Electrification Strategy
Our approach will include:
Interconnected Mini-Grids
We will deploy interconnected mini-grids that combine distributed energy resources with existing infrastructure to provide reliable electricity to underserved communities.
Solar Energy Expansion
Rapid relief will be provided through the large-scale purchase and installation of solar power centers across communities, schools, healthcare facilities, and local businesses.
Reliable Community Power Systems
These systems will help reduce dependence on unreliable central grids while creating stable power solutions tailored to local communities.
The Goal
Our mission is simple and clear:
Reliable electricity for homes, schools, hospitals, farms, markets, and industries across Ogun State.
Electrification will unlock:
-
Economic growth
-
Job creation
-
Industrial development
-
Educational advancement
-
Improved healthcare services
Electricity is not just infrastructure—it is the foundation of modern prosperity.
